West Gallery presents Joseph Tecson: New Landscapes, an exhibition of recent works by the artist.
Tecson’s latest works are a continuation of his ‘landscape series’, employing various techniques reflecting nature and its elements, which is a recurring subject in the artist’s work. Earthly textures – flower fields, sand or waves of the ocean, for example – have long influenced Tecson’s painting practice.
Applying meticulous layers of mixed media, Tecson creates heavily impastoed canvases. With their strongly suggested horizons and rugged, almost geological physicality, the paintings’ surfaces resemble terrains marked by topographical contours which the artist refers to as “landscapes within a landscape” while always emphatically remaining just paint.
