Handpicked by Andres Barrioquinto as a guest artist in his latest exhibit at West Gallery, Iya Consorio makes full use of the opportunity in Lonesome Hunter, where people’s individual characteristics and personalities are seen as animalistic in nature.
Consorio believes this is best demonstrated in everyday encounters with strangers and acquaintances, with whom there are no clear-cut commitments or defined relationships to preserve. Like Barrioquinto, she has been inspired by Japanese prints, drawing faces underneath many layers of patterns and forms – challenging the viewer to dig deep into his personal experience to understand the strategically placed designs.
